摘要：The invention relates to a parking assistance system for the assisted orautomatic parking of a motor vehicle comprising a parking assistant (11) and a steeringactuator (13) and to a method for the assisted or automatic parking of a motor vehicle,whereby the driver can request a steering intervention for the purpose of automatic orassisted parking. According to the invention, a safety check of relevant system functionsis carried out when the driver requests a steering intervention. According to said check itis made sure - whether the control device (12) of the parking assistant (11) outputs noerror message, whether the control device (14) of the steering actuator (13) outputs noerror message, whether communication between the two control devices is not defectiveand whether an automatic steering intervention is requested. The requested steeringintervention is not carried out if one of the above conditions is not met.
