One day you might come to the United Kingdom to study or for a holiday. If you do, there’s one thing you should know. English people just love talking about the weather. Wherever you are, if you meet someone you don’t know, just talk about the weather. It’s their favorite topic. Here are a few phrases you can use:

(1)____________

◆Lovely day, isn’t it? Not a cloud in the sky. ◆What a beautiful sunny day!

◆Nice and cool today compared to yesterday. ◆Looks like it might be a pleasant day. (2) ____________

◆It’s freezing, isn’t it? Feels like it might snow. ◆What a windy day!

◆It’s so cloudy. I’m sure it’ll rain. ◆Looks like shower (暴雨), doesn’t it? Hope you’ve brought an umbrella!

If you want to really impress the English people, learn some of these weather sayings.

“When a cow tries to scratch (擦) her ear, it means a shower is very near.” “Rainbow at noon, more rain soon.”

“The sharper the blast (阵风), the sooner it’s past.”

The further south you live, the better the weather is. That is one of the reasons why houses in the south of England are more expensive than those in the north. 根据短文内容,按要求答题。

Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big, and they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus Flytrap (维纳斯捕蝇草).

The Venus Flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly.

Zhang Peng has the ability to do a lot better. Su Ping Principal(校长) Liu Hanshan Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly touches one of the hairs, the leaves close quickly. The fly cannot get out. In about half an hour, the leaves press the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly. Slowly, the plant eats the fly.

Why do plants do that? Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air, and the ground. In some places, the ground is very poor. It doesn’t have all the important things, especially nitrogen (氮). Animal meat has a lot of nitrogen, so some plants eat meat to get what they need.
